Statistical Analysis of Anesthesia for Emergency Operations


Abstract
The authors analyzed 1346 emergency cases of anesthesia which were performed at dept. of Anesthesiology,
Se-Jong General Hospital from Jan. 1983 to Dec. 1984 by routine statistical methods, The results were as follows:
1. Sexual distribution of emergency patients were 611 males (45.4%) and 735 females (54.6%).
2. About 54.6% patient of all surgical patients were emergency cases.
3. Second decade patients were 599 (44.5%), the most in group.
4. In the section of surgery, 783 cases were G.S., 324 cases were OB-GY, 137 cases were O.S., 46 cases N.S. in order of numbers.
5- In the classification of physical status, 880 cases (65.4%) were class I, 405 cases (30.1%) were class II, 53 cases (3.9%) were class III and 8 cases (0.6%) were class IV.
6. The most common surgical operation was appendectomy recorded 642 cases (47.7%), the next was C-section recorded 240 cases (17.8%).
7. In the technique of anesthesia, inhalation with intubation were 1262 cases (93.7%), inhalation with mask were 45 cases (3.3%), spinal anesthesia were 31 cases (2.3%) in order of numbers.
8. Anesthetic duration of emergency patients revealed high in 1-2 hour group (69.8%), 2-3 hour group (0.7%) in order of percent.
9. 65.5% of emergency operations were performed during daytime.
10. Problems of anesthesia for emergency operation were listed as follows: fever, dehydration, EKG abnormalities, anemia, hypertension, hypotension etc.
